New Green Bay Packers LB Terrell Manning says he is as good as "any linebacker" in draft - NFL News
One thing Green Bay Packers 163rd overall draft pick and linebacker, Terrell Manning is not lacking is confidence.
The Packers picked the linebacker in the fifth round of the 2012 drafts in which the franchise concentrated extremely on shoring up the defence.
Manning was happy to join the franchise but told the Packers official website that he was better than most players at his position in the draft and should have gone a bit earlier.
Speaking in his first press conference as a Packers player he said.
“I feel like I was as good as any linebacker in this draft. I’m looking to prove that.”
He also added that he is looking forward to learning from the veterans in Green Bay’s defensive line-up and improving on his skills.
“I’m coming in to work, I’m pretty sure they know something I don’t.”
Green Bay picked six players in this year’s drafts for the defensive roster as they look to shore up their secondary which struggled extremely in the 2011-12 season.
The Packers defence was one of the worst in the league and was bailed out countless times by the league Most Valuable Player (MVP) Aaron Rodgers led offence.
With the addition of young talent from the draft the team is hoping that the defence will improve considerably over last season’s performance.
General manager, Ted Thompson was also happy with the arrival of Manning for whom he traded three late round picks to New England Patriots to move into 163rd overall in the drafts.
“It was just a situation where we felt a player was being undervalued a little bit. We didn’t know how long he would be undervalued.”
Packers linebacker coach, Winston Moss welcomed the arrival of Manning to the franchise and said that he will be a great addition to the roster.
“I think he’s going to be a good addition, and I think he’s going to press the guys who are in the room right now. All he needs to do is just bring his best game. We’ll help him out, we’ll coach him up and see where he fits in.”
Hopefully, Manning’s confidence in his abilities is justified and it will be interesting to monitor his progress when he takes to the field in the new season.
