  1. if you want another tortoise you can only get a female to go in the same tank as two males will fight for territory, usually to the death  Herman's are really Territorial, and you can't mix a different species of tortoise, he will be quite happy on his own but if you do want another one just make sure it is female you can buy Herman's over 5 years old  and you stand a better chance of guaranteeing it is a female if you get an older one, best of luck honey

  2. Vivs are not a suitable environment for tortoises, please see:

    http://www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/vi...

Also, you have to be careful about adding another tortoise to you own one. For example, if your tortoise was an imported tortoise then you must not introduce a UKCB one - again please read the TT site regarding the herpes virus.

Also, you need to be aware of the very important need to quarantine for a min of 12 months.

Additionally, should you chose to add another tortoise of a similar age then you could end up with two males, never an ideal situation as some males will seek dominance over the other and inflict injuries.

Just my thoughts .... well worth looking at the Tortoise Trust website!

    Cheers!!

  3. usually two males cant go in the same tank, but a male and a female should be ok.

  4. yes, tortoises are very amiable creatures. they rarely fight. the most that will happen is a push fight.

  5. You can house two together and they should be fine. Sometimes two males might fight but that is not always the case so you should be ok. You just need to make sure the enclosure is large enough for two. Also these tortoises will dig and climb so make sure the fence is buried in the ground some and that it is pretty high or has a lip to keep the tortoise from going over it. Good luck and enjoy.

  6. hermans are not supposed to be as aggressive as horsefield (russian) tortoises but having a male and female living together all the time could cause a lot of stress to the female because the male could spend all his time chasing her. so you'd need to keep an eye on them and provide some other accommodation for one of them in case this happens. two males could fight if space is a bit tight but two females would definitely be fine.

and if you do get another tortoise you should quarantine it for a half year.

    great tortoise website:
