Question:

New Hip Hop dancer..?

I've always wanted to get started in Hip Hop. But I've had a feeling I had to get started in dancing when I was like, two, and..I didn't. I don't really have the time or money to take a class. I know some basic things, but it would really help if anyone gave suggestions on how I could improve my dancing on a budget. How could I get started? Should I just start off imitating some dances I see? I honestly don't know what I need to do. Help! D:

  1. don't worry about how you didn't start when you were two. i started when i was 13 (i'm 15 now) and now i have a job student teaching and i'm in a company so i don't think starting young is absolutely necessary to becoming a good dancer. Classes really are the best way to improve but you said you don't have the time or money so i guess what you could try is having a friend teach you if you have any that are good dancers. if not, just copy dances from youtube and stuff. just do whatever you can for now and if you ever have the time and money for lessons, take them.

    best of luck!

  2. Imitating and copying hip-hop dancers isn't such a bad idea once you get started. It seems a bit better than taking lessons though since you can go at your own pace, and dance whatever you seem interested in. =D

But if you're completely new to hip-hop, you should definetly stretch before you dance.

Hip-hop is really quick and has alot of movement so there's a good place to start. :]

  3. Many places offer dance lessons that aren't that expensive and work great with a budget. Check local community center programs for hip hop lessons.

Also, if you are part of a gym, a lot of exercise programs incorporate hip hop as part of their routine.

BUT, if you want to learn in your own home, there's a workout program called Hip Hop Abs and you actually learn the dance moves (and get in shape ;-) lol)........Shaun T teaches easy moves and gets you learning the rhythm and it's not expensive to order the cds.
