Question:

New Homeowner with clogged tub - desparate!?

I have only owned my home for 7 months, & already life has imitated art (think the Tom Hanks movie "Money Pit") I have a small 50 year old two bedroom, 1 bath, which came w/ a "home warranty". My toilet has clogged a few times previously, & about two months ago I had a plumber come out & snake the main line (he found a few tree roots, & a wad of unmentionables my wonderful 26 year old sister decided would be safe to flush.) This wasn't covered by the warranty because there is no cleanout on the main line. The snaking of the main line cleared the toilet problem and I have had no problems with it since.

Over the past week, my tub has begun to severely clog. If you take a shower, it can take up to two hours to drain, and if you run the bathroom sink, water backs up into the tub. I had a plumber come out and he snaked the sink line, the tub, & some sort of cleanout but wasn't able to clear the clog. He said it could be a broken pipe, but he wasn't sure. Can anyone suggest what I do next?

  1. try drain-o let it sit for a while then full it up with water and use a toilet plunger.

  2. You may need to call roto-ruter or someone who unclogs drains....make sure you try everything before you call someone....and don't mix all those chemicals because something may blow up!

    try the toilet plunger!

  3. Try the snake once more.....what happens when you flush the toilet.........sounds like you are blocked out front of the sink and everything is backing up from their......but the toy toy should be showing in the tub also.......so....once you snake it , it should be clear for water.........but waste could be hanging up somewhere ............are you going into city sewer or a tank and drainfield........don't know what kind of house you have...but you can replace lines..........but I know how much you want to hear that........an old friend of mine used to use acid............but it is very dangerous....if you don't understand it........but it will do the job also. But do power snake it again and lets hope it works for you........after that you will have to find the problem and fix...........so sorry....it's a pain. bye
