New Jersey Devils, Los Angeles Kings ready to battle it out in Game 1 of Stanley Cup Finals -NHL Playoffs Preview
The game which fans around the world were waiting for has finally come and is just moments away from taking off as New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings prepare to kick off the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals on Wednesday, May 30,
2012.
Both teams are coming out of the open and expressing their final thoughts before heading into one of the most anticipated series in recent years with two titans of the NHL fighting for Stanley Cup glory.
From the East we have the New Jersey Devils who came out victorious by edging Florida Panthers in Game 7 of the quarterfinals, followed by a huge disappointment to Philadelphia Flyers who were eliminated in just five games. Devils knocked out the hot New
York Rangers in the conference finals to now be where they are today.
Los Angeles Kings from the West, just might have that extra edge as being the favourites in the series, but New Jersey is well known to upset the statistics on a regular basis. Kings ousted the 2011 Stanley Cup finalists, Vancouver Canucks in round-one,
4-1, following by a clean four-game sweep dealt to the St. Louis Blues and a Game 5 victory against Phoenix Coyotes.
"We were kind of playing playoff hockey for the last 20 games of the season," Kings’ defenseman, Drew Doughty, said. "We knew had to win basically every game in we wanted to make the playoffs, and we knew if we didn't, we were completely underachieving with
the guys we had in that room."
Los Angeles Kings have had a week exactly to rest before going against New Jersey, while Devils have had just four in comparison. Both teams will be working to show that rest does not mean rust, something that New Jersey has vast experience in doing which
the nation witnessed against New York Rangers.
It will definitely see who comes out victorious as Kings’ goalie, Jonathan Quick, works towards establishing his name as a top-level goalie while Devils’ veteran, Martin Brodeur, aspires to cement a legacy.
Game 1 of the series kicks off on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
