New Jersey Devils' Cam Janssen regrets profanity-laced interview -NHL Update
Enforcer Cam Janssen might not be the type of player that steals the spotlight during primetime hockey in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season or playoffs, but was certainly on the headlines after a profanity filled radio talk show interview.
The New Jersey Devils’ forward was participating on “The Thom and Jeff Show” in an arranged interview and giving his mind on a number of issues like homosexuality and race, the player seemingly lost control over the use of his words.
The right winger came out on Friday, July 13, 2012, and expressed his regret over firing out such profane words that may have hurt thousands of listeners through a statement released by the team, which reportedly had no knowledge about the incident.
"I would like to apologize for my poor choice of language," Janssen said. "The tone of the interview was very casual and off-colour and I lost focus on what is and is not acceptable and professional. I am deeply sorry to anyone who was offended by my language."
Being in a profession which may have a lot of in-the-closet homosexual players, using such language is not suited for a player of his calibre. Without a doubt, the reputation of New Jersey Devils was also unwillingly hurt, which will obviously take time
to heal now.
"I apologize for the embarrassment my comments have caused to the New Jersey Devils management," Janssen added, "as well as my teammates."
Janssen is a 28-year-old native of St. Louis, Missouri. He was drafted as the 117th overall player back in round-four of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. After playing his first two career seasons with New Jersey Devils, Janssen left to join St. Louis
Blues for the next four years straight.
He made a comeback with Devils last year but did not have any significant impact on the club. In a total of 308 games played in his lifetime with the NHL, Cam Janssen has 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists) and 750 minutes in penalty time.
Obviously, the main usage of an enforcer is not for point, but still, his performance during the regular season kept him out of the playoffs.
