New Jersey Devils' Martin Brodeur hopes to play next season and beyond -NHL Update
At 40-years-old and on route to winning his fourth Stanley Cup championship in history, New Jersey Devil’s veteran goalie, Martin Brodeur, brushed off rumours that he was planning to retire after their playoff run this season before the next hockey year
kicked off.
For spectators, it would not be a bad idea since ending off a career with a Stanley Cup championship is the most ideal way to go, but for others and Brodeur himself, that is not what it is all about.
"I know a lot of people say it's great to retire on top, but at the end of the day, when I'm going to say it's over, it's over, I'm not going to come back. I want to make sure I make the right decision. Right now I'm leaning toward coming back. We'll see,"
Brodeur said on Tuesday, May 29, 2012.
Brodeur might not have killed off the rumours completely, but he did say that he was leaning towards playing another season.
"I can’t say no, but I doubt it," Brodeur said. "I'm really enjoying this. Regardless of what happens in this series, I think we made a great step last year at the end of the year and through this year to have a really good team and a good coaching staff
together and it’s fun. To me, it's all about having fun coming to the rink.”
For Brodeur, this year’s Stanley Cup Finals will be his fifth career series that have such intense properties. There are still some friends of his that terms his retirement decision based on whether he will hoist the cup against this time or not.
With a team like Los Angeles Kings in the opposition, both clubs have a lot on the plate and a lot at stake as Kings are coming into the finals for the first time since 1993.
With such diversification on both teams, Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils will need to give it their all, not only for the most coveted prize in the hockey world, but also to go down in history as one of the most thrilling series to-date.
