New Jersey Devils' Martin Brodeur makes history shuts out Florida Panthers 4-0 -NHL Playoffs Update
Florida is back to where they were a little over a decade ago as New Jersey’s veteran goalie, Martin Brodeur, dominated the Panthers team yet again and set history this time with his 24th career postseason shutout as Devils took game 4, 4-0, of
the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
Panthers lost all motivation and courage when they saw that look on Brodeur’s face, the same look he gave them when the goalie wiped them out of the playoffs map in their previous postseason run a dozen years back.
"He was on top of his game," Devils captain, Zach Parise, said. "You could tell. He was seeing the puck really well. He made the big saves early. I think we all knew he would have a great game but when you see the first couple of saves, we have all the confidence
in the world."
The first period remained slow as both teams failed to score and Florida could not manage to capitalise on the only Devils penalty of the opening round.
New Jersey captain, Zach Parise, gave a glimpse into what was in store for the final 20 minutes as he got the Devils on the score board with his second of the series on a power play opportunity with Keaton Ellerby of Florida out for high-sticking.
Devils rallied in the third without any opposition as Steve Bernier added the second straight, followed by Travis Zajac and Ilya Kovalchuk with the game-winner on the power play, this time as Erik Gudbranson was called for boarding.
"We knew he was going to be ready to go tonight," Florida’s Stephen Weiss said. "He made some good saves when he had to, so did our goalie. We have to find some way to get some past him.”
What has been interesting till now is that New Jersey and Florida have not shown any resistance when it comes to playing at home or on the road. Both have a victory at either home stadium, making game 5, scheduled for Saturday, April 21, highly exciting.
