New Jersey Devils' Martin Brodeur to play next season, but yet to announce decision -NHL Update
With New Jersey Devils’ veteran goalie, Martin Brodeur, set to become a free agent later on this year, many speculated that this would be the last year for the goaltender after he won a Stanley Cup.
Unfortunately, Devils lost in Game 6 to Los Angeles Kings and were eliminated from the series, but on the bright side, Martin Brodeur, confirmed that he wants to return for another season in the National Hockey League (NHL) but wants to wait till the July
1st deadline to make it official.
Brodeur also came out after losing the series to say that he wanted to stay with the New Jersey Devils but has not confirmed whether he is looking for a long-term deal or just a single season or two.
Seeing how he was still able to take his team to the Stanley Cup Finals at the ripe age of 40, Brodeur is confident of his playing abilities.
"This season and this playoff run answered a lot of questions -- where my game is at -- and I'm really happy to hopefully continue," Brodeur said on Monday, June 11.
Brodeur is not in the mood to test the free agency and make a move to another team but has just termed the start of July the time when he will make up his mind. For now, he just wants to rest and clear his mind of all the things that went on these past few
weeks.
"Free agency," Brodeur said, when asked when the media could expect a decision from him "I'm not saying I'm going to go after midnight, but for me that's the date. I'm going to take a little time off -- I'll be back in Jersey until late June -- and I'll
figure it out then."
The Montreal, Quebec, Canada native, was on a six-year, $31.2 million contract, which will finally be coming to an end on July 1st. Fans can expected a year or two extension, depending on how long the goalie wishes to continue playing, but anything
more is not seen to be in the pipeline.
Developments on Martin Brodeur and his announcement should be expected later on in June.
