New Jersey Devils' Martin Brodeur will make his decision final by Free Agency Deadline -NHL Update
New Jersey Devils are definitely anxiously awaiting the final decision of their veteran goalkeeper that nearly got them a Stanley Cup championship this year, but according to Martin Brodeur, they will have to wait till the free agency deadline (July 1st)
for it.
After another remarkable 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and managing to make it into the Stanley Cup Finals, Martin Brodeur shocked the world by announcing that he may or may not return for the upcoming hockey year.
Health and playing abilities did not seem to be an issue affecting the player at all looking at his statistics, but there seems to be another reason, which might be their failed attempt to get the Stanley Cup.
"Regardless of what is going to happen, whether it's me being here, or me not playing, or me doing anything else, July 1 is the date because that's when people start shopping," said Brodeur.
At the age of 40, Martin Brodeur is playing much better than most young goalies around the league and losing him would be disastrous for New Jersey is each and every aspect seeing how they do not have a ready backup to fill in a gap of that magnitude.
Set to become an unrestricted free agent, Martin Brodeur has already made it clear that he will not be signing on with another team and if returning is his final choice, it will be with New Jersey at all costs.
"You know what, the decision will be pretty easy for me to make, I just want to take my time doing it," Brodeur said. "There's a really good chance that I'll be back, but I want to make sure I spend time with my kids, my family, my wife, my dad, and answer
all the questions I need to because it's a big decision to be made."
With the clock ticking, Martin Brodeur is getting less and less time to finalise his decision. Fortunately, Devils head coach, Peter DeBoer, gave a hint to him returning but at the moment, nothing can be said for sure about the goalie and his future with
the Devils.
