New Jersey Devils-New York Rangers Eastern Conference Finals Series Preview -NHL Playoffs
It has come down to two teams remaining in the Eastern Conference and both New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers will be battling for supremacy. The meeting between the two is the third since 2005-2006 and sixth time since 1992.
New Jersey and New York have proved that they are extremely capable of winning games and dominating the competition if needed, making this series even more interesting to follow.
With two veteran goalies in front of the net, each have vested interests in taking home the Stanley Cup this time around as it very well might be their last chance at doing so.
Henrik Lundqvist of New York and Martin Brodeur of New Jersey have been in the National Hockey League (NHL) for many seasons and going out with a Stanley Cup championship is the best possible way to do it.
"Whatever I'm going to do in the next two weeks is what people will talk about," Brodeur said. "So that's just the nature of being still active in the NHL. And if I wasn't ready for it, I wouldn't be here. So I'm happy to be here. I'm happy to have the opportunity
to try to move on to the Stanley Cup Final."
Let’s take a look out how this series might play out:
New York Rangers fatigued, New Jersey Devils well rested or rusted?
With New Jersey Devils out of the playing arena for over a week, all that rest might have turned into rest if you ask analysts but head coach, Peter DeBoer, has reiterated many times that he will not let that affect them in any possible way.
New York on the other hand had only a day off after defeating Washington Capitals on Saturday, May 12, 2012, in Game 7 to decide the semi-final series. Some think that it will keep them in form while others believe that it could tire them out.
Could the Devils take advantage of the fact that New York just might breakdown with game-after-game and being well rested could allow them to go all out right from Game 1 or will Rangers keep their engines running on maximum capacity to take down a rusted
New Jersey team?
Goalies
Goaltending is a huge factor for winning in each and every series but the New York-New Jersey series will be even more intense as both teams have some of the best in the league. Both goalies have vast postseason experience and will need to come up big to
overtake the other.
Martin Brodeur maintained a .920 save percentage and 2.05 goals-against average after the series while Lundqvist showed exceptional form against Washington with a .937 save percentage and impressive 1.68 goals-against average.
Prediction
The series will definitely be tight and full of fighting as every minute will raise tensions by manifolds. Looking at purely stats, New York Rangers are most likely to take the series against New Jersey Devils in Game 7.
