New Jersey Devils Travis Zajac suffers torn Achilles tendon, out for 3 months –NHL Injury Update
One of the top contributors on New Jersey Devils, National Hockey League (NHL) franchise, Travis Zajac, went out for at the least 2-3 months after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon during an offseason, off-ice workout, and undergoing reparative surgery on
his left leg on Thursday, August 18.
Last season, it was another one of their top contributors, Zach Parise, to have injured his knee in preparation for training camp and missed out on most of the regular 2010-2011 season. Hopefully for New Jersey, Zajac’s situation will be different and he
will be back after missing only a few games.
New Jersey Devils general manager, Lou Lamoriello, was the one to make the confirmation after Zajac sustained it on Wednesday and underwent surgery on Thursday morning.
"He'll be in a cast for a week and then he'll be in a walking boot right after that", Lamoriello said. "Then, it's the healing process, which takes around three months." “It was repaired this morning at 9:30 in Winnipeg”. “It was a success—a simple operation.
It’s just timing and healing”.
Above all, Zajac was operated on by a doctor who the team management was very well aware of and comfortable with.
“We know the doctor up there and we had a conference call with our medical people with Travis and everyone on the phone,” Lamoriello said, adding that all precautionary measures had been taken to ensure the best recovery. “We made a decision that he is there
(so do the surgery there).
Travis Zajac, a 20th overall selection during round-one of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by New Jersey, has been one of the top performers on the Devils roster ever since he was brought on during the 2006-2007 in which he potted 42 points (17 goals,
25 assists) in 80 games.
The 26-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, finished off his fifth straight season with Devils last season by participating in all 82 games and contributing 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists).
Updates on Zajac’s are expected nearly every two weeks and before the regular season begins, for which he may be ready to play in.
