New Jersey Devils add former Los Angeles Kings defender Peter Harrold to one-year, two-way contract
New Jersey Devils added minor league and former Los Angeles Kings major league defenseman, Peter Harrold, to a one-year, two-way contract, worth a reported $550,000 if he plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) and an undisclosed amount for his participation
with minor league affiliates.
Peter Harrold, a 28-year-old defender from Kirtland Hills, Ohio, United States, was picked up during the 2006-2007 season after playing three consecutive years with Boston College Eagles. He played 12 games major league games and managed to pick up two assists
along with grabbing eight penalty minutes.
He continued to play with Manchester Monarchs, Los Angeles Kings affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he put up an impressive 34 point figure (7 goals, 27 assists) in 62 games played.
The following season brought more NHL games for Harrold, as he appeared in 25 and registered more than double points, five (2 goals, 3 assists), while finishing off with a plus-minus rating of three and two penalty minutes. It was back off to the AHL from
their as he played 49 more games and registered 43 points (7 goals, 36 assists).
It was during the 2008-2009 season that Harrold was given a full chance to prove himself to Los Angeles Kings, playing in 69 games and potting 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists), he did not do as well as he should of, but still managed to put up career high
numbers.
Los Angeles Kings allowed Harrold to play in two postseason games after he played 39 matchups during the 2009-2010 regular season and scored only three points (1 goal, 2 assists), but failed to register a single point during the playoffs.
Last season, Harrold continued to decline in terms of performance as he played only 19 contests and recorded 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists), with only 12 shots taken throughout and four penalty minutes.
New Jersey Devils are speculated to just have added depth to their defensive end and nothing else. For them, it would be quite feasible to have a defenseman on-call who also have NHL experience under his belt.
