New Jersey Devils aim to eliminate, New York Rangers focus on staying alive -NHL Game 6 Preview
New Jersey Devils are more confident than ever going into Game 6 of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Finals on the verge of advancing, but this is not the first time New York Rangers are heading into matchup with the possibility
of being eliminated.
Same was against Ottawa Senators for New York as Rangers fought back in Game 6 and took the series in the final matchup. They also went to Game 7 to decide the semi-final series against Washington as the Capitals had the same, 3-2, lead entering Game 6.
Rangers will need to work that experience and show Devils that they are not amateurs when it comes to rebounding.
"I don't have to motivate the team. I think our team is motivated," Rangers’ coach, John Tortorella, said. "I don't look at it as overcoming a 3-2 deficit. We need to win a hockey game. We're preparing to try to win one hockey game, and we'll see after that.
So we prepare as we always do. There's no magic. There are no special speakers coming in. There is none of that."
Henrik Lundqvist, one of the NHL’s most experienced goalies, knows that he has to be better himself and not play like he has in the past two contests which New Jersey dominated. Winning three straight will be definitely a big deal for the Devils, but New
York can certainly put at least one back on the record board.
"(Game 5) was maybe a little wake-up call," Devils’ goalie, Martin Brodeur, said. "They played better, but we didn't play as good as we wanted, so I'm sure they're going to feed off of some of the stuff they exposed in us. We're definitely going to need
to be better for the rest of the series."
Both teams are not going to make the mistake of going into the matchup with too much confidence. They realise that Game 6 will not be easy in any sense and are prepared to battle it out till the end.
Game 6 of the series is scheduled to kick off on Friday, May 25, 2012, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, at 8:00 PM ET.
