New Jersey Devils captain Zach Parise expected to stay with team -NHL Update
According to sources close to the New Jersey Devils general manager, Lou Lamoriello, he will not be trading his teams captain, Zach Parise, according to the rumours which sparked after the star player himself confirmed that no negotiations about his contract
extension had taken place.
Lamoriello is reported to have said that after being asked whether he is looking to deal the future unrestricted free agent before the National Hockey League (NHL) trade deadline, which is set for February 27, 2012.
A number of GMs around the league had their attention caught when the news spread about a potential trade with the New Jersey Devils which would involve their top forward, Zach Parise, but until the news is officially confirmed by the team through a press
release or even a contract extension for the player, clubs will continue looking to grab the player at any chance they get.
When asked about whether he would like staying with New Jersey, Zach Parise answered in the positive but added that he could not control anything the team had planned for him in the future.
"I try not to think about it," Parise said. "It can't interfere with what's ahead."
For New Jersey head coach, Peter DeBoer, his line-up is performing well and will continue stepping up when the time requires it, indirectly hinting at the need of keeping Parise on the roster, for this season at least.
"I take a little bit of comfort in the fact that the personnel in our room have a history of stepping up at this time of year and playoff time. We're going to need that," DeBoer said.
New Jersey Devils currently stand seventh in the Eastern Conference with 57 points, a single point ahead of eighth place Toronto Maple Leafs.
Zach Parise was drafted as the 17th overall draft pick during round-one of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils and has remained with the team ever since playing his first game during the 2005-2006 regular season.
He has played 49 games so far this season with the team and boasts a 41 point record (16 goals, 25 assists).
