New Jersey Devils climb up the table with another win, 4-1 against the Montreal Canadiens

The second game of the Sunday was played at the Centre Bell Arena with home team Montreal Canadiens hosting the New Jersey Devils. This was the 794th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series which was expected to be very tight as the Devils
were in hot form while the Canadiens were playing on home.
The game turned out to be very entertaining with both teams dominating some parts of the game every now and then. However, New Jersey Devils were in hot for after a poor first half of the season. This game was another one of their productive games where
they managed to score four goals and won the match 4-1 in the end. Ilya Kovalchuk was named the star selection of the match as he scored two goals during the match.
New Jersey Devils exploded at the start of the match which saw them firing numerous shots on goal. Though some of the early chances were difficult but they could be scored from. However, it didn’t take them too long as the Devils were able to score in the
2nd minute of the match through Dainius Zubrus from a brilliant backhand shot.
The Devils continued to attacks and in doing so displayed some excellent passing and shooting abilities. New Jersey Devils successfully doubled the lead with another goal in the 5th minute which was scored by Ilya Kovalchuk from a brilliant tip
in shot. The game saw the Montreal Canadiens shift gears too and they too started to attack.
The home team backed by the home crowd started to come across scoring chances but they failed to capitalize and the period ended with the Devils leading 2-0. During the course of the period, Devils made 10 goal attempts while the Canadiens made 11 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Devils start off on a high once again and they were able to score once again in the 4th minute through Travis Zajac. New Jersey Devils absolutely dominated the proceeding early on but their too much attacking resulted
in them being caught off guard on several occasions.
However, in the 9th minute they were punished for this as Montreal Canadiens scored through P.K. Subban from a brilliant long range shot. After the goal, the Devils were still the team which was on top. Despite the several goal attempts made by
them till the very end of the period, no goals were scored. New Jersey Devils led 3-1 heading into the break and made 14 goal attempts in the period while the Canadiens made 5 goal attempts.
The final period of the match wasn’t as entertaining as the previous two periods and there were fewer shots on goal. Initially, Devils were the stronger of the two teams but with the passage of time they took the foot off the gas and it were the Canadiens
who started to create chances. Devils scored the only goal of the period in the 19th minute through Ilya Kovalchuk to seal the match.
New Jersey Devils won the match 4-1 in the end as they made 6 goal attempts and Montreal Canadiens made 10 goal attempts in the final period.
