New Jersey Devils close to elimination with 4-0 shutout by Los Angeles Kings-NHL Stanley Cup Finals
New Jersey Devils are now playing out their worst case scenario as Los Angeles Kings continued to dominate the series and have now definitely taken all hope away by shutting out Devils, 4-0, in Game 3 of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup
Finals on Monday, June 4, at the sold-out STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California.
Devils lost the first two of the series at home and were confident of bouncing back on the road as Kings were known to be better on foreign territory, but Los Angeles seems to be unstoppable at the moment, putting New Jersey on the brink of elimination with
a 3-0 series.
Game 2 seemed to be a similar style of comeback which Devils played out against New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Finals, but against Los Angeles, it seems like New Jersey is just hopeless.
Martin Brodeur faced just 21 shots in net and amazingly, he failed to stop four in the final 40 minutes while Jonathan Quick continued to play shockingly well with a perfect 22 save night.
No matter what the Devils tried throughout the 60-minute contest, Jonathan Quick was just too confident with his skills in the net. The opening period was all Devils as Los Angeles Kings lost Mike Richards at 14:35 and then made it a 5-on-3 man advantage
for the visitors with Jeff Carter called for a double minor nearly a minute later.
Devils failed on all chances in the opener while Kings rebounded in the second with Alec Martinez kicking it off at 5:40 and Anze Kopitar making it a 2-0 game at 15:07.
Third period was also dominated by Kings with Jeff Carter scoring his sixth of the postseason and Justin Williams securing the match with two straight on power play opportunities to route and destroy the Devils team in all aspects.
Los Angeles Kings are on their way to winning a first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history while New Jersey Devils on the other hand, also established a record of their own as they had never lost three straight matchups in all five appearances in
the finals.
Game 4 is on Wednesday, June 6 and could possibly be the last.
