New Jersey Devils continue climb on the table with a 3-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes
The second game of Wednesday was hosted by the New Jersey Devils as they were up against the Carolina Hurricanes. The game was played at the Prudential Centre with the a large crowd showing up to cheer the home team as they continued their journey in hope
of making it into the play-offs.
The game was pretty much even with Devils scoring the first goal of the game in the second period. The final saw both teams scoring goals but it Devils who emerged as 3-2 winners of the game. Johan Hedberg, goal keeper of the Devils was named the star of
the game making 25 saves out of the 27 shots fired on goal.
The first period started off on the slower side with both teams coming up with some decent plays but they weren’t able to score. Though there were chances early on for teams to score but they couldn’t find a way past the goal keeper.
The game caught a lot of pace which resulted in the offence dominating the defence. However, the passage of time saw the defence also getting stronger and cutting down any attacks that could have proven to be dangerous. As the period neared its end, shots
were fired every now and them and from everywhere on ice.
The period ended goal less with both teams deadlocked on 0-0. During the period, Hurricanes made 5 goal attempts while Devils made 6 goal attempts.
Devils were quick out of the blocks in the second period. Displaying some excellent passing and shooting abilities, the home team worked their way past the opposing team and found the back of the net. The goal was scored by Ilya Kovalchuk from a brilliant
flick shot in the 6th minute. Devils continued their surge but despite making a few more goal attempts they couldn’t score.
On the other hand, Hurricanes got in with a few shots but they were as intense as those of the Devils. They couldn’t manage to score as the period ended with Devils leading 1-0. During the course of the period Devils made 8 goal attempts while Hurricanes
made 6 goal attempts.
The Devils were high on confidence as the final period started. With their strong offence, the home team successfully scored in the very first minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Brian Rolston from a brilliant backhand shot. Devils scored
once again in the very next minute to seal the game according to many. This time the goal was scored by Patrik Elias from another superb backhand shot.
The period saw the Hurricanes come up with a few shots after this as they tried to make their way back into the game. Hurricanes scored through Sergei Samsonov in the 9th minute to trail by two goals. Both teams continued with the attacks but
Hurricanes scored with just five seconds remaining. The goal scored by Tuomo Ruutu was a little too late.
The period and the game ended with Devils winning 3-2 in the end. During the course of the period Devils made 8 goal attempts while the Hurricanes made 16 goal attempts.
