New Jersey Devils continue surge for the play-off cut as they win 2-1 against the Florida Panthers
Another one of the important games of Sunday was hosted by the Florida Panthers at the Bank Atlantic Centre as they faced the New Jersey Devils. Both the teams are very close in the Eastern Conference but unfortunately outside the play-off cut. The Devils
have been in good form and have continued to move up the league table with the recent performances and a win would help them move closer to the final play-off position.
The first period was goalless however the Devils scored twice in the second period while the Panthers could manage just one. However, the Devils won the game 2-1 in the end. Brian Rolston, winger of the Devils won the game as he scored the second goal of
the game.
A slow start to the game was observed by both teams as they were reluctant to go on the attacks. Thought they constructed some superb pieces of play but failed to capitalize from them and couldn’t find the back of the net.
However, with the passage of time shots start to come but then the defence and the goal keeper were able to deal with the pressure. The Panthers emerged as stronger of the two teams but they too failed to find the back of the net.
It looked as if a goal was going to be scored for sure but this didn’t happen as the period ended with the scores still level on 0-0. During the course of the Panthers made 11 goal attempts while the Devils ended up firing 10 shots on goal.
The second saw the Devils start off stronger of the two teams as they came up with brilliant passing and shooting abilities. They away side was dominating the game and scored in the 6th minute through David Clarkson from a powerful strike to get
into the lead.
Though the Panthers came up with a few shots on goal and some decent plays but they couldn’t match the Devils. The Devils on the other hand scored once again in the 10th minute during power play to double their advantage. The goal was scored by
Brian Rolston from a powerful long range shot.
The period saw the Devils and Panthers both continuing to fire shots on goal but none of these were score off. The period ended with the Devils leading 2-0 as they made 10 goal attempts in the period while the Panthers made 7 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play saw both teams making a decent start which resulted in quite a few goal attempts but with the passage of time these dried up. However, the Panther caught pace and scored in the 16th minute through Marty Reasoner from
a powerful strike to trail by a single goal.
However, this was the only goal of the period which resulted in the Devils winning the game 2-1 in the end. During the period, the Devils made 6 goal attempts while the Panthers made 8 goal attempts.
