New Jersey Devils defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 – NHL Recap
The New Jersey Devils beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 at the Prudential Centre on Friday. The Flyers were looking to win the game and extend their lead in the National Hockey League Conference, as the Devils are out of the play-off cut and were playing
the spoilers.
The Flyers started the game stronger of the two teams with regular shots on goal and they scored the lone goal of the period. The Devils managed to construct some brilliant attacks and scored twice in the second period to get into the lead. The Flyers levelled
the score at the start of the final period, but the Devils scored two more goals to seal the game 4-2 in the end. Patrik Elias, winger of the Devils was named the Star of the Game, as he scored three goals during the course of the match.
There was some brilliant passing and shooting right from the start of the game, but the Flyers were able to edge out ahead with some extra brilliance. The Flyers were able to score a goal in the 11th minute through James van Riemsdyk from a well
placed flick-shot.
The period continued with both teams firing a couple of more shots on goal, but they were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net with the same consistency. The period ended with the Flyers leading 1-0, as they made 14 shots on goal while the Devils
made eight attempts on goal.
The second period witnessed both teams tightening the screws and showing some strong defending. The Devils were successful in taking advantage and scored in the seventh minute through Patrik Elias from a quick fired shot to level the score.
The Devils continued to pile pressure on the opposing defence that saw them scoring once again in the ninth minute through Elias once again. Both teams continued to fire shots on goal, but none found the back of the net.
The period ended with the Devils leading 2-1, as they made 10 shots on goal during the period while the Flyers made nine.
The final period began with the Flyers dominating the offence and they scored in the fifth minute through Jeff Carter to level the score. The goal was scored from a well placed quick fired shot.
The Devils were able to pile on some pressure that saw them scoring in the ninth minute to get back into the lead, as Nick Palmieri scored from a perfectly timed flick-shot. Both teams continued to attack and it was the Devils who scored once again in the
18th minute through Elias to seal the game 4-2 in the end.
