New Jersey Devils’ defenseman Bryce Salvador refers life without hockey as bitter pill-NHL News
New Jersey Devils’ defenseman, Bryce Salvador, has for the first time spoken about what the life was for him without hockey during the 2010-11 season, which he had to sit out due to concussion.
In spite of referring the life without hockey as a bitter pill to swallow, he has thrown a light on some of the positives he has learnt from the idle period he spent on the sidelines watching his teammates and others playing the game, actively.
More or less he remained optimistic about his future while strengthened his determination of the comeback and playing as effectively as he used to do before the injury.
It is due to his determination that he has ascended in the chart of defensive department of his team during the 2011-2012 season.
He said of his situation in 2010:
"Every season is different in kind of what you go through and I think not playing was more of going through the experience of not playing and everyone else still playing. You kind of get a glimpse of what life is like without hockey; a different perspective
on the game."
The player also spoke about the approach he had adopted during the course of the recovery to remain focused on the purpose.
According to him:
"My approach to a lot of things is control what you can and don't worry about what you can't. I try to keep a lot of those thoughts out where you look forward six or seven months and try to plan those things. I just tried to stay away from that.”
For his courage and level of persistence, Salvador has won praise and commendation from his teammates and officials.
Devils’ general manager, Lou Lamoriello, said he was happy for Salvador, adding that it was a remarkable comeback from the player who in spite of not being sure about the future put so much effort and worked hard at all levels to make this happen.
He said it was down to the natural tendency of the players like him to work so hard that something which looked to be uncertain worked out for them.
