New Jersey Devils head coach Peter DeBoer determined to excel in upcoming season -NHL News Update
New Jersey Devils newly appointed head coach, Peter DeBoer, has affirmed his commitment to bringing back the franchise into the playoffs, along with making them a top Stanley Cup championship contending team for the next 2011-2012 National Hockey League
(NHL) regular season.
Devils president, Lou Lamoriello, certainly believes that his past record, even though he was fired from the coaching position with Florida Panthers after having spent the last three seasons with them, is beneficial to a team like New Jersey.
"Peter DeBoer is an individual who I have watched coach over the past two decades at the junior, international, and professional levels", Lamoriello, said.
Putting New Jersey back on track after having missed the postseason for the first time in over a decade will not be an easy task, but keeping in touch with former head coach, Jacques Lemaire, DeBoer thinks that they will eventually accomplish their set goals.
"I've spoken with Jacques since becoming coach and my conversations with him were very insightful", DeBoer said. "I think until you stand behind the bench with a group of players, or on the ice on a daily basis with them, no one knows them better than that
person and Jacques knows this group inside-out from his experiences here”.
Along with getting to know the players individually and finding their strengths and weaknesses, DeBoer wants to take a more personal approach to the game, ultimately enabling him to have the best player at each position on the ice.
Hired as the seventh coach by Lamoriello in the past seven seasons, DeBoer will have to prove himself worthy of keeping the position and not being shown the door like most of the previous heads.
Other than primary players, DeBoer is keeping a sharp eye on the secondary performers to keep the line-up strong even if a player is out with an injury.
Setting goals and eventually meeting them is what Peter DeBoer has planned on doing for the next season, which will be thrilling to witness.
New Jersey Devils play their first season game against Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, October 8.
