New Jersey Devils host the Carolina Hurricanes in their second meeting of the season
The first game of Tuesday will be hosted by the New Jersey Devils as they play host to the Carolina Hurricanes who will start their five game road trip with this match-up. Both the teams have been scheduled to meet four times during the
course of the season. This will be their second meeting with the Hurricanes winning the first match comfortably 6-3 on the 1st of January.
All the three remaining meetings will take place this month and with the season nearing its end, things are surely going to be tough with so much on stake.
The Hurricanes finally made it into the final play-off position which was held by the Atlanta Thrashers for quite sometime. This was all due to the win they came up with and with Atlanta losing to help their cause. Things are looking to get better as the
Hurricanes are in a strong position to not only hold on to the spot but have a chance of climbing up even further.
On the other hand, New Jersey Devils have been in sublime form recently as they have come up with some excellent hockey which is probably their best of the season by far. The last match that the Devils played this Sunday against the Montreal Canadiens saw
them absolutely dominate as they won the match 4-1 in the end. Devils are on role as they have a lost only two of their last 12 games.
Carolina Hurricanes have been in good form recently but at this stage of the season where every point matters and a win or a loss can change the entire outcome of the remaining season, Hurricanes face a tough task of playing some of the best teams in the
NHL currently.
They have a five games road trip which begins tomorrow as they square off against the Devils. Next up will be one of the powerhouses in the league in Philadelphia Flyers after which they will be heading to Tampa Bay Lightning who are currently leading the
Southeast division. The trip sees them face the Thrashers who are surely going to challenge them for the last play-off position to make this final half of the season all the more exciting. The final game of this hectic schedule will see them face the Devils
once again and who knows the Devils might come up with a surprise and the search a spot in the play-offs.
"We've got a real tough stretch of games coming up, and you don't want to be six or seven (points) out going into that stretch," Coach Paul Maurice said. "We want to hold water in this stretch and then make the big push toward the end."
Currently, both teams have played 53 games with Hurricanes sitting on 58 points with 32 wins while the Devils have scored 42 points with their 23 wins during the course of the season so far.
New Jersey Devils have finally found their way after a drastic and worse first half of the season. Things were going smooth and they came up with quite a few win until this Friday as they lost against the Florida Panthers. However, they learned from their
mistakes and came up with a superb win over the Montreal Canadiens and things are looking good for them to finish in the play-off position if they continue to do what they have been doing so far.
"We’re still not looking at (the standings)," center Travis Zajac said. "We've got a long ways to go. Our mentality has been taking it a game at a time, being prepared every game and trying win as many games as possible. Right now, we're doing that and we've
just got to keep it that way and stay focused."
