New Jersey Devils live to see Game 6 edging Los Angeles Kings 2-1 -NHL Stanley Cup Finals
Defying all odds, New Jersey Devils lived to see another game by edging Los Angeles Kings for the second straight time, 2-1, in Game 5 of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the sold-out Prudential Center
in Newark, New Jersey.
Martin Brodeur was the ultimate factor in keeping his Devils team alive by blocking 25 of 26 shots for a near shutout.
"We're still alive, so we have a chance," Devils goalie, Martin Brodeur, said. "It's a difficult thing to get yourself ready for games like that. Now it's been two in a row. It drains you a lot. It takes a lot out of you. But, it's worth it."
For the Los Angeles Kings, winning the first three games and having New Jersey on the brink of elimination and now losing two straight has definitely been frustrating. Now having given up two chances to take the Stanley Cup, LA must down Kings at home in
Game 6.
"Sure, there is anxiety," Kings’ forward, Justin Williams, said. "We haven't lost two games in a row. We've played pretty hard. This is the Stanley Cup Final -- it isn't supposed to be easy. This is a grind. They're a heck of a team over there with a lot
of character and a lot of grit. They battled hard to keep that one-goal lead."
Zach Parise kicked off the scoring with his power play with his eighth goal of the postseason on a breakaway unassisted at 12:45 of the first while Justin Williams tied it up in the second. Bryce Salvador potted the tantalising game-winner at 9:05 of the
second, sending the crowd into a wild roar while New Jersey maintained the lead and took the match.
Now, New Jersey is close to making history as they might work Game 6 and bring the Stanley Cup Final back home for a Game 7 competition, making them the first NHL team to do so.
Game 6 will definitely be exiting as it is scheduled at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California on Monday, June 11.
