New Jersey Devils move out of the last position in the league after a 3-2 win against New York Rangers
One of the matches which had a rather surprising result in the end was hosted by the New York Rangers at the Madison Square Garden this Thursday as they were up against the New Jersey Devils. The New York Rangers were definitely the stronger of the two sides
but the Devils put up quite a show which saw them taking the early lead and managing to win 3-2 in the end.
Dainius Zubrus was, centre of the New Jersey Devils was named the star selection of the match as he scored 1 goal and also made an assist.
New Jersey Devils didn’t care if they were playing home or away all they knew was to attack and score a goal as soon as possible. They constructed some early attacks which saw them coming across scoring chances right from the word and they managed to take
the lead in the 2nd minute. The goal was scored by Ilya Kovalchuk from brilliant shot which was placed quite well.
New Jersey Devils continued to pile pressure on the away side but they couldn’t get the puck past the goal keeper and with the passage of time it got harder and harder to get past the defence. The New York defence and offence both got stronger as minutes
passed. New York Rangers made a few attacks as the period was ending but unfortunately they couldn’t score and the period ended with the New Jersey Devils leading 1-0 going into the break.
During the course of the period New Jersey Devils made 5 goal attempts while the New York Rangers made 7 goal attempts.
The second period was very exciting with both teams coming out in attacking mode. However, the Devils were by far the better team on the offence and with the combination that they played everything seemed to go perfect as they scored once again to double
their lead. The goal was scored by Dainius Zubrus from a powerful strike that went flying past the goal keeper in the 9th minute.
Devils kept on pressing on despite the loads of pressure were put on them and they scored once again in the 16th minute through Brian Rolston from a powerful strike to lead by three goals. Though it would have been appropriate to defend rather
than attacking but Devils kept on attacking. However, they paid for this as New York Rangers managed to score a goal through Ryan Callahan in the 17th minute to cut the lead to two goals. Though there were several chances for both teams to score
further goals but they couldn’t manage to score and the period ended with Devils leading 3-1.
The final period of the match saw the Devils again starting off strongly but unfortunately for them, it was New York Rangers who managed to score in the 3rd minute to cut the lead to one goal with a lot of time left. The goal was scored from a
brilliant shot by Vinny Prospal.
The Devils constructed a lot of attacks but they couldn’t get the final shot in. On the other hand, Rangers were the dominating force in the period as they constantly attacked looking for goals. However, no further goals were seen and the Devils notched
up a 3-2 win and moved out of the last spot in the league.
