New Jersey Devils plays host to Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth and final meeting between the two
New Jersey Devils will host Philadelphia Flyers in the first game on Friday at the Prudential Center. This will be the sixth and final meeting between the two teams during the course of the season.
Out of the five games that have taken place during the season, Flyers has won three while Devils has won two.
The last and most recent meeting between the two teams saw Devils coming up with a decent performance that saw it winning by 3-1 with Patrik Elias scoring the winning goal.
Flyers piled out 43 shots against Atlanta Thrashers in the last game but unfortunately wasn’t successful in getting even one of them into the back of the net. In the end, Thrashers was able to score a late goal in the final period to win the game by1-0.
Devils is out of the playoff’s contention but it will be looking to defeat Flyers and hurt its chances of finishing in the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Devils’ coach is disappointed over the fact that Devils won’t be able to appear in the playoffs this time out but he was happy considering how the team reunited and piled up brilliant results to keep it in the hunt as the end of the season approached.
"I'd like to put pressure on these guys a little bit and say that the last games that we have to play from here on (will be the best way to judge the season)", Lemaire said. "It would be very simple just to say that, 'Hey, we came back. We did well up to
now. It's fine.' But it will be fine if we play well from now until the end”.
"We've got to win some games there. That's what I'm saying. You can't go on and lose all of them to get a good feeling to end the season on a more positive note".
Devils has played 76 games during the course of the season out of which it has won 35 in regulation time and five games in overtime to score a total of 75 points.
Flyers has played 77 games during the season out of which it has won 46 games in regulation time and 10 games in overtime to score 102 points.
Flyers was hoping to continue on the winning roads after it won the game against Penguins but despite beating Thrashers in terms of shots on goal, it couldn’t score and lost the game in the end.
"It's tough when you throw everything at the net and they get a lucky bounce and get the goal”, Flyers’ captain, Mike Richards, said.
