New Jersey Devils rebound with 3-2 win over New York Rangers -NHL Playoffs Update
Going down 3-0 in the opening match seriously brought New Jersey under intense heat but a rebound in Game 2 of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Playoff Finals as Devils edged Rangers, 3-2, brought the series back up to par.
It looks like all that rest certainly did make New Jersey rusty but as Devils fought hard in Game 2 to silence all their critics at the Madison Square Garden in New York on Wednesday, May 16, 2012.
Taking shots at every opportunity they got was basically what they changed in their strategy from Game 1 instead of working for that perfect chance.
"We had to keep going to the net, and I think we were doing some good things," Devil’s David Clarkson said. "We've been playing some good hockey and we've got to continue to do it. That is a big win for us."
Ilya Kovalchuk got New Jersey off to a great start with his sixth postseason goal on the power play with Brian Boyle out for slashing at the 13:02 mark.
New York Rangers responded in the second period as Marc Staal and Chris Kreider added two straight and took the lead with less than eight minutes remaining in the match.
Ryan Carter levelled the contest at 18:09 in the second period and it was Clarkson’s game-winner at 2:31 in the third that allowed Devils to get the one point lead and take the match.
"I thought tonight was a different reaction when we went down by a goal than it was in the first game," New Jersey captain, Zach Parise, said. "We didn't change the way we played, and I think that was a big difference. We were comfortable with how we were playing. We spent a lot of time in their zone. You know, all I think they got was really on the power play."
Game 3 will definitely be exciting as Devils and Rangers go to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The match kicks off on Saturday, May 19, 2012, with both teams battling it out to take a lead in the series.
