New Jersey Devils set to host St. Louis Blues – NHL Preview
Whether the game is played on home ice or on road, New Jersey Devils treat every challenge equally and manages to get a win as well, but this time the task will get much more difficult as the team is up against St. Louis Blues in a National Hockey League
(NHL) game on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at the Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey.
The Devils are on a five-game winning streak and have beaten pretty strong opponents lately.
The last victory came against present NHL Eastern Conference leaders, New York Rangers.
Devils scored the only goal of the game in the first period after which goalie, Martin Brodeur, completed his first shutout of the season.
Brodeur said of the team’s current winning run that:
"The last week has been good, beating the Rangers twice, Pittsburgh and Philly. We had a hard time early to do that. Now we seem to come through against these teams."
New Jersey is ranked fifth in the Eastern Conference with 65 points after 53 games.
On the other hand, St. Louis is also having a remarkable season, but the inconsistency is tormenting the team badly.
The Blues have only won two out of their last five games, but it would be a mistake to underestimate this team.
St. Louis is ranked fourth in the Western Conference with 69 points after 52 games and is going to play its third straight road game on Thursday.
The Blues defeated Ottawa Senators in the last game by taking a two-goal lead in the first period.
Ottawa scored a goal in the second period, but Blues scored another one to take a decisive two-goal lead.
Blues’ goalie, Brian Elliott, who was previously a member of Ottawa Senators, was pleased to have the victory.
He said:
“We just wanted to come here and get a road win. We haven't been as good on the road, so coming in here for kind of a homecoming meant a lot to me and the guys played hard for me.”
By the looks of it, New Jersey has more chances to win. It is maintaining a winning run besides scoring a lot of goal whereas St. Louis is struggling in both these sectors.
