New Jersey Devils smash underdog claims, confident going in against Los Angeles Kings -NHL Playoffs Update
One thing that gets New Jersey Devils’ players really worked up is when they hear claims from the media that they are the underdogs heading into the series, which is now also rising up once against as they gear up to face Los Angeles Kings in the 2012 National
Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals.
Devils are proud of one thing for sure and that is being the team that spoils the hopes and dreams of some speculators that were hoping for New York Rangers-Los Angeles Kings series.
New Jersey Devil’s superstar veteran forward, Ilya Kovalchuk, did not really care what people thought of his team going into the series and are just focused on taking home the cup in any circumstance.
"I don't really care," said Ilya Kovalchuk. "We're here to win and I think we deserve to be here, and so does L.A. I think it will be a great final. It's the best two teams in the league facing each other. It'll be exciting."
Peter DeBoer, New Jersey Devils’ head coach, has been confident about his team throughout the whole season and now in the postseason as well. For his, the next series against Los Angeles is just another phase towards their hopes of securing the cup.
"For sure we do," DeBoer said. "That's been the case really from the second round on. The Florida series was really everything we could handle, and we were favored. But after that, against Philly, the Rangers and L.A., there's not a whole lot of people picking
us. Absolutely we have to come out of the gate and be ready to create some doubt. They're on a tremendous roll here. They've made some very good teams look real average."
Devils were rumoured to have acquired rust after they eliminated Philadelphia Flyers in just five games while New York Rangers stayed strong after a seven games series with Washington Capitals. They surprised everyone by showing that making a comeback is
nothing hard for them after winning three straight and eliminating Rangers in Game 6.
It will be exciting to see if New Jersey Devils will be able to continue fighting with the same momentum as they meet Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
