New Jersey Devils spoil Los Angeles Kings home celebrations with 3-1 victory -NHL Stanley Cup Finals
Los Angeles Kings were forced to wait for another day in order to celebrate their Stanley Cup championship as New Jersey Devils came it Game 4 dedicated more than ever and downed the home team, 3-1, on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the jam packed STAPLES Center
in Los Angeles, California.
Devils also lived to see another game, with the next being at home, as they were down 3-0 entering Game 4. Kings had dominated the New Jersey team in three matchups straight, but luckily for the Devils, their prayers were answered and a strong rebound it
certainly was.
The odds are in favour of Los Angeles to take home the cup as no one has ever won the Stanley Cup by winning four straight games being down 3-0, but history can always change and New Jersey is looking forward to doing that.
"It's a tough situation, but we live another day," veteran NJ goalie, Martin Brodeur, said. "We wanted to at least have one more game in our building for our fans. Hopefully, we'll make the best of it and come back here."
Two scoreless periods for both teams meant that there was fierce competition from both sides that kept the opposing forces out of the net for 40 minutes before they entered the final period.
New Jersey just went wild as Patrik Elias kicked off the scoring at 7:56 with Kings’ fans thrilled to see Drew Doughty levelling it on a power play exactly a minute later.
Devils had other plans as Adam Henrique scored the game-winner at 15:29 while Ilya Kovalchuk secured the match with 20 seconds left to play.
The shooting also remained nearly levelled on both ends as Brodeur faced 22 while Jonathan Quick dealt with 23 shots.
"I think (wrapping it up) was definitely on our minds, but they found a way to get a late goal," Kings’ captain, Dustin Brown, said. "We've just got to hit the reset button. We've been in this situation now four times in the playoffs, and we've always come
back with a big rebound game."
New Jersey Devils have found a way to win and hope to continue with their new tactics in Game 5 against Los Angeles at the Prudential Center in Newark on Saturday.
