New Jersey Devils to name new assistant coaches to fill gaps -NHL Update
The loss of two of their assistant coaches might not have been as major of a hit to the New Jersey Devils as was the loss of captain Zach Parise, but in recent reports, general manager Lou Lamoriello, is working towards filling the gaps and could be doing it as soon as this week.
Adam Oates, one of the assistant coaches to go, left the team and took the job as a head coach of the Washington Capitals. Dale Hunter had resigned from his position after being brought in for fired coach Bruce Boudreau after the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs.
"We'll have the assistants decided sometime during this week," Lamoriello stated after the opening day of the organisation’s development camp, which is taking place at the AmeriHealth Pavilion.
Larry Robinson also left his charge in New Jersey with the Devils to take the same position in San Jose with Sharks after Oates made his surprising transition.
There have been no confirmations made by New Jersey and GM Lamoriello up until this point in time but former Devils’ player, Sergei Brylin, is being tipped off as one of the potential candidates by various circles around the league.
The GM also did not have anything concrete to say about whether the league could be heading into another lockout or if a CBA would come into place prior to the 2012-2013 NHL regular season kicking off.
"If we can make a transaction that makes us better, we will," Lamoriello said. "The CBA or salary cap will have nothing to do with what we're doing. There's always uncertainty. Everything is status quo right now. You're always trying to get better, but that goes on 12 months a year. Right now, we are who we are."
Talking about Zach Parise, it seems like New Jersey Devils are still mourning the loss and due to their financial constraints, it is hard seeing them bringing a player like Rick Nash or Shane Doan over the next couple of days or even throughout the offseason at all.
For now, New Jersey is focusing on the young talent at hand and hope to continue growing the club.
