New Jersey Devils trades with Minnesota Wild, acquires Maxim Noreau for David McIntyre –NHL Updates
The trading season in the National Hockey League (NHL) has finally kicked off before the free agency starts on the first of July. New Jersey Devils acquired defenseman, Maxim Noreau, for its forward player, David McIntyre, on Thursday, June 16th.
Maxim Noreau was part of the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Houston Aeros club which is the Minnesota’s farm league associate.
He played six NHL games with Minnesota Wild throughout the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons. His status still remains undrafted but his 12 points and two-goal performances in Aeros’ stretch for the Calder Cup in the finals really made him standout.
In the six NHL games that he played with Minnesota, Noreau did not register any points and maintained a minus one rating but will be looking for more output now with New Jersey Devils.
The 138th pick overall of the fifth round in the 2006 NHL Entry Drafts by Dallas Stars, forward player, David McIntyre, is yet to play his first professional NHL game.
The 24-year-old from Oakville, Ontario, Canada, continued to play with his college after the draft at Colgate and joined Devils’ associate AHL franchise, Lowell Devils.
He played in 12 games with Lowell Devils in which he registered three goals and two assists for a total of five points during the 2009-2010 season.
Lowell reached the Calder Cup playoffs that season in which he played five games and scored two points, consisting of one goal and one assist.
This development comes as New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild look to replenish their teams and add young blood to the line-up.
The 24-year-old Maxim Noreau is a player who is not only a well rounded defenseman but can perform equally well on the offensive side.
Since McIntyre had not had a chance to perform in the major league yet, it will be interesting to see how he is able to adjust to the new environment. It just might bring out exactly what Wild is hoping for.
There are still many trades expectations in the upcoming days as teams’ exchange or try and retain players before the free agency begins.
