New Jersey Devils veteran goalie Martin Brodeur still to decide about next season -NHL Update
New Jersey Devils are having the time of their lives as they are on route to securing another Stanley Cup championship under the leadership of veteran goalie, Martin Brodeur. Whether they win the cup or not, Martin Brodeur is yet to decide if he will be
playing next season or not.
18 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) is definitely a long time to have spent in one place and ending one of the league’s most colourful careers with a Stanley Cup championship seems like the best way to go for many, but Brodeur’s not sure about
what he should do.
"You know, I can't say no. But I doubt it," Brodeur told reporters after Monday's practice. "I'm really enjoying this. Regardless of what happens this series, we made a great step last year, and we've got a good team together, a good coaching staff, and
it's fun, you know?
The 40-year-old goalie already has three Stanley Cup championships under his belt with terrific performances back in 1995, 2000 and 2003. He is the one of the best known goalies to have ever graced this sport and despite having a below than average 2011-2012
NHL regular season, Brodeur is back in the battle for the cup.
"For me it's all about having fun coming to the rink. Some say it's fun to retire on top or whatever, but at the end of the day, when I'm gonna say it's over, it's gonna be over. I'm not gonna come back. We'll see. I hope you don't have to replay that tape
there. And that's gonna be it, I wanna make sure I make the right decision. But right now, I'm leaning to coming back," Brodeur added.
He stayed strong against a top-level Florida Panthers team in the quarterfinals, outplayed Ilya Bryzgalov and the Philadelphia Flyers in the semi-finals and routed Henrik Lundqvist and New York Rangers in the Eastern Finals.
Brodeur’s next challenge is the young Los Angeles Kings’ goalie, Jonathan Quick, who will definitely put up a fight but seeing how experience is always a major factor, New Jersey Devils just might take it home once again.
