New Jersey Devils win third straight over Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 -NHL Match Update
New Jersey continued their winning streak as the Devils edged the Carolina Hurricanes, extending it to three in a row now, 3-2, Tuesday night, November 8, 2011, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, United States.
Adam Henrique scored the game-winner for New Jersey during the final minutes of the third and final period of regulation, in which both teams managed to equalise the score and were nearly headed into an uncertain overtime extension.
Carolina has now lost three straight, stunting them at the number 11 position in the Eastern Conference, tied with the Winnipeg Jets with 13 points.
"I knew Ward was going to slide to the post, so I just slid around and threw it there, hoping something would happen", said Henrique, who scored his fourth goal in the past five games which became the game-winner. "It was a lucky bounce. I'll take them all".
Hurricanes rookie, Brandon Sutter, gave Carolina a strong start by scoring his fourth of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and the opening of the night shorthanded on a breakaway as his teammate, Anthony Stewart, was booked for slashing
and awarded a minor penalty.
"It's tough to take", Sutter said. "We've had a tough go the last few games. We competed tonight the way we wanted to, but things didn't go our way. The last game was different, because we didn't play hard enough. Tonight, we get back to our game, play well
and still come up short”.
Dainius Zubrus gave New Jersey the goal they needed to comeback in the contest by scoring his fourth of the season nearly midway through the second.
Petr Sykora put the Devils ahead with their second straight of the night but it was Joni Pitkanen who scored the equaliser and gave Carolina another chance but Henrique’s game-winner 10 minutes later secured the match in favour of New Jersey.
New Jersey Devils have their last home game against Washington Capitals on Friday before taking off on a five-game road trip. Hurricanes on the other hand, have one more on the road against New York Rangers before returning home.
