New Jersey Devils wins 3-2 against Atlanta Thrashers in its effort to make it into the playoff cut

Atlanta Thrashers played host to New Jersey Devils at the Philips Arena. The game was important for both sides as they wanted the win and make their way into the playoff cut.
The game was open and both teams had nothing to lose which made the game all the more exciting.
Devils were very strong at the start of the game with Thrashers coming up with some decent shots on goal as well. However, despite all this none of the shots found the back of the net.
Both teams scored a goal apiece in the next two periods.
The regulation time period ended with the scores level on 2-2. As a result, the game went into overtime where Devils scored to win the game by 3-2 in the end.
Travis Zajac was named the star of the game as he scored two goals during the period.
Thrashers came up with a few shots on goal in the early stages of the period but eventually it was Devils who came out on top. Not only did they display some excellent ice hockey but they showed some superb passing abilities.
The defence of Devils didn’t give the opposing team any space to even breathe. Thrashers found it hard to get past the defence and it looked as if they started to panic. Devils’ offence got better and better with the passage of time and shots were fired
on goal regularly.
Unfortunately, despite so many shots on goal, none of them found the back of the net as the period ended with the scores level on 0-0.
During the course of the period, Devils made 11 shots on goal while Thrashers made 5 shots on goal.
The second period saw both teams making a slow start to the game after which the game caught pace which saw both teams attacking. There were shots on goal but it was not until the 11th minute that Thrashers finally scored through Blake Wheeler
from a quick fired shot.
Devils weren’t far behind as they too started to create scoring chances for themselves and scored in the 13th minute through Travis Zajac during a power-play to level the scores.
There were a few more shots on goal but no further goals were scored. The period ended with the scores level on 1-1.
The final period saw Devils making 12 shots on goal and Thrashers making 8 shots on goal.
Both teams scored a goal apiece which meant the scores were level at the end of the regulation time. The first goal was scored by Dustin Byfuglien for Thrashers in the 4th minute while Devils levelled the scores through Ilya Kovalchuk’s goal in
the 8th minute.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 which took the game into overtime where Travis Zajac scored the game winning goal as Devils emerged as 3-2 winners of the game.
