New Jersey Devils wins 3-2 against the Carolina Hurricanes after a tough match in overtime
The first game of Tuesday was played at the Prudential Arena with the home team New Jersey Devils playing home against the Carolina Hurricanes. This was the 802nd game of the 2010 Compuware National Hockey League Premiere Series with both teams
playing the 54th game of their respective season.
Both teams were pretty much even except the final period where New Jersey Devils were very strong on the offence. However, the scores at the end of regulation time were level on 1-1. Consequently, the match went into overtime where Devils scored to win
the match 3-2 in the end.
Both teams made a decent start to the match where they waited for chances to come their way. Some brilliant pieces of play were observed from both sides as they pressed on in search of goals. As the period moved on, the attacks started to increase and intensify.
It was almost certain that a goal would be scored but this didn’t happen as the period neared its end.
There were numerous goal attempts made by both sides at the dying stages of the period but neither of the teams was able to break the deadlock. The scores at the end were deadlocked on 0-0 with Carolina Hurricanes making 9 goal attempts while New Jersey
Devils made 8 goal attempts in the period.
The second period saw both teams start off even more cautiously where they didn’t attack at the start at all. Any attacks that were made were dealt by the defence of both teams brilliantly. Carolina Hurricanes started to construct some excellent plays and
finally managed to score in the 10th minute to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Jeff Skinner from a brilliant flick shot that was very well placed. However, New Jersey Devils also started to attack after the restart and scored in the 12th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Mattias Tedenby.
There wasn’t much to talk about in the remaining part of the period with both teams making a few more goal attempts.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 as Carolina Hurricanes made 7 goal attempts in the period while New Jersey Devils made 5 goal attempts.
The final period of the match started off with the Hurricanes making a quick start that saw them coming across scoring chances early on. The away side successfully scored through Jeff Skinner to get into the lead. After the goal, Hurricanes made a few more
shots on goal but they were unsuccessful in scoring.
The second half of the final period was totally dominated by the Devils as they piled up shots after shots and attacks intensified by each passing minute. Much to the delight of the home fans, Devils scored through Nick Palmieri in the 18th minute
to level the scores once again. The regulation time ended with no further goals.
During the course of the final period, Carolina Hurricanes made 5 goal attempts while New Jersey Devils made 19 goal attempts as the scores were level on 2-2.
The match went into overtime where New Jersey Devils scored through Mattias Tedenby in the 3rd minute to win the game for the Devils.
