New Jersey Devils wins 4-2 against Atlanta Thrashers as Thrashers' slump continues - NHL Updates

The first game of Tuesday was played at the Prudential Center as the home team, New Jersey Devils, played against Atlanta Thrashers.
Devils were in form and looking to win and score crucial points while Thrashers looked to come up with a win and end their slump.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw both teams firing shots on goal. Thrashers scored the opening goal with a few minutes left to play in the first period. Thrashers scored once again with Devils also scoring a goal. The first period ended
with Thrashers leading 2-1.
Devils scored the lone goal of the second period to level the scores.
Devils scored twice in the final period to win the game by 4-2 in the end.
Jacob Josefson of Devils scored the winning goal to be named the star of the game.
Devils came up with the early shots on goal as they had the home advantage but with the passage of time, Thrashers managed to come up with some strong shots on goal as well. There were some brilliant pieces of play during the early stages of the game but
no goals were scored.
Thrashers managed to score the first goal of the game and get into the lead. The goal was scored by Tim Stapleton from a brilliant tip-in shot in the 16th minute.
Thrashers continued to attack and they came ever so close to score again but failed. However, they successfully scored in the next minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Chris Thornburn from a well placed flick shot.
Both teams continued to construct plays and Devils finally scored in the 19th minute through Travis Zajac to cut the lead to single goal. The period ended with Thrashers leading 2-1 as both teams made 9 shots on goal during the course of the period.
The second period saw Devils coming up with a decent offence but their defence was exceptionally superb during the 20 minutes of play. The defence restricted the opposing team to almost nothing during the course of the period.
On the other hand, the strong offence managed to score in the sixth minute through Patrik Elias’s flick shot to level the scores.
The period saw Devils coming up with a few more shots on goal but they failed to find the back of the net. The period ended with Devils making 9 shots on goal while Thrashers made 2 shots on goal with both teams level on 2-2.
The final period saw Devils being the more productive of the two teams even though they made 6 shots on goal compared to the 9 made by Thrashers.
Devils took the lead with Jacob Josefson scoring in the fifth minute and then sealed the game with Ilya Kovalchuk scoring in the final minute.
In the end it was Devils who won the game by 4-2.
