New Jersey Devils within nine points of the Carolina Hurricanes after a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning

The second game of Wednesday was hosted by the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Centre as they were up against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
A win was important for both teams with the Lightning looking to close the gap on the Canucks while the Devils needed a win to cut the gap with Carolina Hurricanes who are in the final play-off position.
The game started off with both teams reluctant to go on the attacks. At the end of the first period the scores were level.
However, each team scored a goal in the second period with the Devils scoring once again in the final period to win the game 2-1 in the end. Ilya Kovalchuk of the Devils was named the star of the game as he scored the winning goal and made the assist in
the first one.
The period started off with both teams coming up with some decent plays but they couldn’t manage to come up with the final shots on goal. After the middle part of the period the teams changed the strategy and they created chances for themselves.
The Devils started to create chances for themselves with some decent pieces of play with the Lightning also notching up a few shots on goal.
The period ended with the scores level on 0-0. During the course of the game the Devils made six goal attempts while the Lightning made 3 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Lightning starting off the period in decent fashion as they came up with shots on goal.
Lightning with the strong play managed to score early in the period to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Dominic Moore in the fifth minute.
Both the teams continued to create chances but they weren’t able to find the back of the net.
Devils successfully scored in the 19th minute through Henrik Tallinder from a powerful strike to level the scores.
The period ended with no further goals as the scores were level on 1-1 with the Lightning making 7 goal attempts while the Devils made 10 goal attempts.
The final period of the game saw the Devils making a decent start to the game which saw them coming up with some brilliant pieces of play.
The teams set the home fans wild with a superb goal in the 11th minute which was scored by Ilya Kovalchuk from a powerful strike.
Devils continued to come up with shots on goal and pin point and accurate passing but they weren’t able to find the back of the net.
The period ended with the score line same as the Devils won the game 2-1 in the end. During the course of the final period the Devils made 11 goal attempts while the Lightning made six goal attempts.
