New Jersey Nets appoint Milton Lee as GM operations of Springfield Armor: NBA Update
The New Jersey Nets have appointed Milton Lee as their minor league’s General Manager of operations. The Nets general manager Billy King announced Lee’s appointment on Wednesday night.
Talking to the media, he said “Milt is a natural fit for this position, He has a strong history with young players and his experience with the Nets basketball operations department will allow for a seamless integration of philosophies between the two teams.”
Lee will be overseeing the basketball operations of Springfield Armor, a NBA Development League team that is affiliated with the Nets. His duties will include selection of a head coach, other coaching staff and the team’s roster.
Lee is quite an experienced individual when it comes to handling basketball operations. He has also worked with the Nets as the Director of basketball operations. As director of basketball operations at the Nets, Lee was responsible to collect statistical data for the team and make strategies. His main objective of developing the Nets state of the art locker room at the Barclays centre has gone down very well with the Nets management. His focus now will certainly on the Springfield Armor and its development.
Last year, the Nets took over the operational responsibility of National Basketball Association Development League’s (NBA D-League) team the Springfield Armor. The Nets management did not acquire the entire team but reached “hybrid affiliation” an agreement with Armor’s management. Under that agreement, they will carry out the operations of the team and will try to enhance their productivity.
This agreement has provided the Nets control over the expenses which are directly related to the Springfield’s basketball operations while the Armor management is still partner with the Nets on all the other responsibilities of the team.
This development will not help in strengthening the D-League franchise, but will also provide the Nets a good avenue of finding young talent and bringing them into their ranks. Under their new Russian billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov, the Nets have been striving for an elite status. Their plan to shift to the new Brooklyn centre, the roping in of Deron Williams were the first steps and it looks like there will be many new development in the near future.
