New Jersey Nets guard Terrence Williams inactive due to abdominal injury
Nets guard Terrence Williams did not play in New Jersey's 93-91 loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers last Tuesday, 2 November. The second-year swingman was taken
out of the roster due to a lower abdominal strain.
Williams suffered the injury during practice on Monday. He warmed up with the team before the game against the Cavaliers, but did not log any minutes on the court.
Williams, who was taken with the 11th pick in last year's NBA Draft, is currently averaging 8.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 43.4 percent from field goal range.
The second-year guard, out of Louisville, has been coming off the bench this season behind starting guard Anthony Morrow. With the absence of Williams, Morrow played more minutes in the game against the Cavaliers (32 minutes) and produced 10 points, three
assists and two rebounds.
Nets on a dry spell
With the loss against the Cavaliers, the Nets have fallen to a five-game losing streak. The dry spell comes after the team started the season with a 2-0 record.
Last year, the New Jersey Nets earned a dubious record when it opened the season with 18 straight losses. The streak eclipsed the 17 consecutive losses suffered by the Miami Heat to start
the 1988-89 season. The Nets finished with the worst record in the league last year with win-loss slate of 12-70. New Jersey's record marked the only the fifth time that an NBA team has lost 70 games. Other teams that share the distinction include the 1972-73
Philadelphia 76ers (the team owns the worst record ever at 9-73), the 1986-87 Los Angeles Clippers, the 1992-93 Dallas Mavericks and the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets.
The Nets are looking to Williams as a major contributor to avoid a repeat of last season. The 23-year old is currently the team's designated sixth man. The Nets play the Cavaliers again
on Wednesday, and the team has yet to announce whether Williams will be returning to the lineup.
