New Jersey Nets hire Chris Carrawell as an assistant coach for D-League affiliate

The New Jersey Nets appointed Chris Carrawell as an assistant coach for their D-League affiliate in Springfield Massachusetts on Tuesday. The former Duke star will assist the new Springfield Armor’s head coach Bob MacKinnon, Jr.
Carrawell will co-ordinate with MacKinnon and will assist in making strategies for their team’s better results in the upcoming season, which will begin on Friday, 25 November. The first game of the season will be played between
the Springfield Armor and Maine Red Claws.
The official announcement of Carrawell’s arrival in the Springfield Armor was made by the Nets’ general manager of minor league operations Milton Lee. He said,
“Chris is an excellent addition to Bob’s staff, He is a young, aggressive coach who comes to the Armor from a storied college basketball environment, and his passion and energy will be an invaluable asset to our players.”
Later, the Duke University and USA National Team’s Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski also commented on Carrawell’s arrival in the Nets’ Development League D-League affiliate. He said, “We are so happy for Chris. He’s the consummate team
player who became ACC Player of the Year. He has a great understanding of the game and loves to teach it, this position is absolutely perfect for him.”
A former professional basketball player and a standout from Duke University, Chris Carrawell has spent almost four years doing several administrative jobs in Duke Blue Devil men’s basketball staff.. Recently, he worked as the assistant
video coordinator and assistant strength/conditioning coach of the Duke. He has also worked as assistant/head team manager and Duke Athlete outreach coordinator.
Before joining the Duke as manager and coordinator, he had a tremendous time at the Duke as player. His incredible amateur career brought him several awards in Duke colours. He was declared as a two-time All-ACC player in his college
career and also as the 2000 ACC Player of the year.
During his time at the Duke, he led his team to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship four times and won four consecutive ACC regular season titles. The Duke Blue Devil compiled a wonderful 133-24 record
in his four years and the best season was 1998-1999 when they compiled 37-2 record.
Chris Carrawell’s achievement as a college player brought him in the limelight and the San Antonio Spurs drafted him 41st overall in the second round of 2000 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft. He played for
three seasons with the Spurs and averaged 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
Chris Carrawell also played in the NBA Development League D-League for the Asheville Altitude. He also has an experience of playing overseas in Lithuania, Germany, Australia, Philippines, and the Netherlands.
