New Jersey Nets officially veted by NBA to be Brooklyn Nets next season - NBA Update
Good bye New Jersey, Nets are going to Brooklyn and will be known as Brooklyn Nets from next season. The franchise today got the unanimous approval of NBA Board of Governors to relocate the team to Barclays Center.
Brooklyn Nets will start the next season at their new home Barclays Center, an 18,200 seated sate of the art arena situated at the corner of Atlanta and Flatbush avenues. The arena is still under construction and will be handed
over to the franchise on September 28, 2012.
NBA commissioner David Stern promulgated the said transition during a press conference on Friday afternoon. He then went on to Brooklyn and praised the team’s new abode.
"We voted to formally approve the move, and the team name, which will be the Brooklyn Nets. It's an impressive building," Stern said. "It's on-time, it might be [a bit] early, perhaps as early as August, and open September 28,
and sales of tickets and suites were reported to be doing well."
There are however still some legal complications that need to be addressed before the franchise take over the arena. The native population has filed countless lawsuits mainly from the people living in the surrounding of the premises.
As those buildings will have to be cleared away but once these law suits are dealt with the project is a good to go.
The transition holds numerous financial ramifications as the 67,5000 square-foot arena can hold 18,000 seats for basketball and up to 19,000 for concerts. It will have 104 suites and according to the New York Post, 11 of the suites
run $540,000 a year and the rest cost $264,550.
Moreover being in Brooklyn means lucrative advertisement offers and unending business possibilities. Naturally the franchise owner Mikhail Prokhorov and Barclays Center developer Bruce Ratner were obliged and they extended their
heartiest gratitude to the commissioner.
"We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to David Stern and the NBA team owners for their role in making the Nets' move to Brooklyn a reality. Barclays Center will give the Nets a state-of-the-art new home and, together,
we will give Brooklyn the great sports and entertainment experiences it so deserves”.
Change of avenue cannot necessarily result into elimination of all their worries. They got the bigger platform but are on the verge of losing the biggest fan attraction, Deron Williams. He is one route to become free agent and
the owner is rolling dice to ensure his stay with them.
They are out of the post season race, their fifth such year in a row. With a new venue, they can start over fresh in the next season. Till then they will have to put their house in order that will require a more enthusiastic team
with a winning spirit.
