New Jersey Nets point guard Ben Uzoh signs with an Italian team: NBA Update
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has locked its players over labour dispute with the Players Association and still no positive development has been made to resolve this issue. The NBA owners want to include some new clauses
into the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, a fact (CBA) which is not acceptable to all the league’s players and their union.
The new hard salary cap for the professional basketball players and less revenue share from the NBA’s entire income are the main hurdles in reaching an agreement and till that happen the functions of the league will remain suspended.
Along with many other disadvantages, this lockout is forcing the current league’s players to play overseas. Several professional basketball players have already signed with different international basketball clubs and many players
are still thinking to play overseas during the lockout.
According to latest reports, New Jersey Nets’ point guard Ben Uzoh has signed a one year contract with an Italian Serie A team Fabi Shoes Montenegro. The development has also been confirmed by his new team in Italy. Uzoh will be
replacing the current Fabi Shoes Montenegro’s point guard Edger Sosa, who was injured on 5th September in the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship.
Although, no further details of the contract were issued in the media some sources have confirmed that unlike other contracts of the NBA players, the Nets guard has not chosen the opt-out clause. This means, Ben Uzoh will not be
returning to the league whenever the lockout ends.
Ben Uzoh has spent a one season with the New Jersey Nets and in total 42 games, he averaged 3.8 points, 1.50 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. Before arriving in NBA, Uzoh played for the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
He played for four years in the University and was the leading shooting guard at Tulsa.
In the 2010 draft, the New Jersey Nets’ management signed a partially guaranteed contract with Ben Uzoh. He played impressively in his rookie season and consequently signed a guaranteed contract to play the rest of the season.
Later, Uzoh was sent to the Springfield Armour in the NBA’s Development League (D-League) to gain more experience.
With the lockout looking to affect the NBA season, Uzoh has now decided to try the foreign market.
