New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams still uncertain after injury – NBA update
Point guard, Deron Williams, strained his right wrist and bruised his left hand when he fell on the court after making a layup. X-rays were taken at Energy Solutions Arena after a loss to New Orleans Hornets 91-87 on Monday night which came back negative.
In the afternoon Williams went for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
However, Williams took another harsh blow on his wrist against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday. After that the New Jersey Nets coach Avery Johnson said that they are seriously thinking about reconsidering his place and status on the squad. Williams injured
his wrist when he was in the Utah Jazz and the doctors have advised him to rest and give the injury proper time to heal, but he made the injury worse by playing persistently.
Before the game against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night coach Johnson restated that they are keeping a check on Williams on a daily basis. He can be included in the final line-up, in the game against the New York Knicks on Wednesday night as the Nets
visits Madison Square Garden.
Johnson said, “He worked out this morning. He'll do a little something tonight. Like I said, he's day to day. And we'll figure out if he's gonna play in a game this year or not. And if he does, we'll see how he gets through it, and we'll talk about the next
one after that, if and when that happens.”
He also added, "I'm probably gonna hear from [trainer] Tim Walsh sometime right before the game [Wednesday], so hopefully I'll have an update for you guys tomorrow before the game, because we're probably not gonna have a shoot around tomorrow. We may just
have a little walkthrough before we get on the bus to go across town."
Johnson said that along with the franchise owners, he will take a combined decision to distinguish whether Williams can return. The star player has so far missed five games due to strained ligament in the right wrist.
Williams told the media reporters on Monday that his wrist is "feeling good right now," but he believes that this is temporary. Williams now feel regret over his decision of not sitting out after the injury.
Williams said, "It probably would have been good now. But I was in Utah, we thought we were making a playoff push. If I would have known they were going to trade me, I would have just sat out."
Doctors told Williams that he requires three to six weeks of rest to fully cure the injury, but the good news is that he will not need any surgery. Though, he has said over and over again he does not want to sit out for the remaining season, he will probably
take one or two chances again.
Williams is averaging 14.8 points and 13.1 assists, but is shooting just 32.7 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from 3-point range, in his eight games with the Nets.
