New Jersey Nets star Deron Williams has sympathy for Washington Wizards' youngster John Wall – NBA Update
New Jersey Nets super star Deron Williams has said he can understand the plight of Washington Wizards live war point guard John Wall. Williams believes that Wall is a good player and has struggled this season because of the lack of quality figures around
him.
The Washington Wizards have had an abysmal NBA season so far. They are rooted to the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and do not look like moving up anytime soon. The playoffs are already beyond the reach of a team that cannot stop losing at the
moment and they don’t have many players exactly making a name for themselves.
The Wizards were always expected to struggle, but the same is not true for Wall. The point guard was terrific last season, and could have been a strong nominee for the NBA Rookie of the Year award if it weren’t for the sensational Blake Griffin.
This is year though his spark seems to have abandoned the youngster and his has struggled to find form. His numbers, which were expected to go up, have not been pretty and he has failed to make a significant impact on the Wizards fortunes.
While some people have criticized Wall for taking a step back, or at least not making the kind of progress expected of him, Nets star Williams believes otherwise.
Deron made it clear that he thinks Wall has done a good job, especially considering the players surrounding him.
“He’s handled it well. He’s had a tough cast down there, I don’t want to put anybody down but he’s not playing with the smartest guys in the world. That’s tough, man, that’s tough,” Williams said.
The Nets point guard went on to bash Washington players, repeating that they were of a low basketball IQ, and even naming JaVale McGee.
“They’re not smart, I don’t know," Williams said. "I’ve been watching. JaVale McGee was on the Not So Top 10, like, 50 times this year,” Williams said. “But I think he’s handled it well. He has to force a lot of things.”
McGee was traded by the Wizards to Denver Nuggets at the trade deadline, in exchange for experienced centre Nene, showing that perhaps the Wizards management shared some of Deron’s views.
Williams though didn’t stop there. He related Wall’s situation in Washington to his own in the Nets.
“I don’t get many open looks, I don’t get many just spot up shots and it’s just what it is.”
The guard is known to be unhappy at New Jersey and has already confirmed that he will opt out of his contract with the Nets at the end of the season.
