New Labour Deal needed by Thursday to have Full 82-Game Regular Season -NHL Lockout Update
Another week has kicked off in which fans are missing out on what should have been a great start to the 2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, but there is still hope as Thursday, October 25th, 2012, can be termed to be the deadline
in order to see a full 82-game hockey year.
This week will definitely be the most intense as it has almost been seven days since the league made their 50-50 offer to the Players’ Association and rejected three of their counter proposals in their last meeting, which lasted just over an hour.
Most hockey pundits are regarding Thursday to be not enough time to have a new deal secured by then, but fans are hoping for a miracle in order to have a full 82-game regular season in the cards.
"The players made another major move in the negotiations this week in an effort to end the lockout, by presenting the owners with a proposal that gets to a 50-50 split of revenues," Mathieu Schneider said Friday via email, according to StLToday.com. "In
return, we expect that owners will honour the current contracts they have already signed, which everyone knows is fair."
There are no official meetings scheduled for this week, as long as the media is concerned, but insiders are telling that both stakeholders are still holding talks under the radar, over the phone, and planning on how to save the hockey year from being thrashed.
It was NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman who raised the hopes of fans earlier last week by saying a full regular season could still be carried out by November 2nd, meaning that both sides would have to work extra hard in order to get all the core
issues discussed and mutually consented upon.
The next 24-48 hours are extremely crucial in order for a full 82-game regular season to be played and if there is no significant progress in the next day or two, seeing a whole hockey year should be termed to be out of the cards available.
Updates should be expected in the upcoming days or hopefully, much sooner.
