Question:

New MacBook questions.?

I just opened my MacBook straight from the box. When I first turned it on, it made a sound. I can't really describe it. I'm currently installing OSX and it is making strange noises. It sounds like when a Windows PC is booting up. Is that normal? Or maybe I'm just paranoid because it's new and I'm a first-time laptop owner?

  1. Macs make a unique sound when they start up. You might have just done the setup stuff and not actually installed OS X. They run you through more user setup stuff compared to Windows, but it makes your initial experience easier and better. If you did go through a process of installing OS X, you would still only have one copy on the computer so you don't have to worry about removing anything. The CD-ROM drive on Macs is noisy when you first insert a disc and sounds like it just literally ate the disc.

  2. I think it might just have been the boot up sound that macs make. If it was anything weird, then you should definitely take it back to where you bought it and get a new one.

  3. if you dont feel comfortable with the noise then return it and get a new one, i just got a macbook myself and it doesnt make any noise.

  4. other then the boot bong  the hum of the hd and  the  fans it should not  make any other  noises

  5. You may hear a bit of clicking and whirring from the hard drive. Spotlight will do a lot of work at first indexing the hard drive. If it doesn't go away in a couple hours (except when doing heavy disk work) then there could be something wrong.

  6. I don't know. I just got a mac book too and it didn't make sounds and already had Leopard OS x 10.5 pre-installed.
