New Marlins ballpark built through tax-payer’s money has not changed fate of Miami Marlins-Part 1
The change in name, the colour scheme and the stadium has not changed the typical pattern the Miami Marlins are known for following every season. They have traded players as their doom prevailed and they have performed as badly usual. It seems that some
in the coaching and management staff are possibly vulnerable to get fired.
Just like bailout packages cannot eliminate the curse capitalism puts on low-income people in general, the construction of a new ballpark, the induction of new players and a manager can not alter the fate of the Marlins.
Every time we confront a problem the first thing which holds the secret of the ultimate solution is finding the root cause. What on earth the Marlins have not done this year to clinch the Division Championship that they fell apart so cheaply?
They have not done anything about those who call the shots. Those who keep their interest above everything are not going to let the Marlins change for the better. Those who sought the approval of the construction of a New Marlins park, the cost of which
will be borne by the poor taxpayers, are the real weak-links.
Knowing that it is not their money those officials spent it lavishly and thus added those features in the design of the ballpark that are not generally witnessed in a baseball ballpark.
Jeffrey Loria lobbied shrewdly for the approval from the authorities and when the latter showed reluctance he deployed the threat of shifting to another city if he was not allowed. He pressurised them and in turn he disassociated himself from the cost of
the park. In consequence, he let the local fans drown in the sea of interest payments that they will be paying now. This money was otherwise to be spent on the up gradation of their living standard.
Free to expend the stated money anywhere, he instead of focusing on team building and went after gimmicks which were supposed to invite fans from all around the country. The reserved place for the parties and the concerts was meant to attract the maximum
number of spectators to the park which proves that the idea of earning money was given more importance by him.
It seems that the owner knew in advance that his team will never perform well. He thus pursued those tactics which will ensure the flow of money while the performance downs, disregarding the fact that the long-term existence of the club rests on the laurels
that the Marlins actually achieve in baseball.
Any plan made out of the fear of losing is destine to fail and the Marlins are certainly a perfect example of this. They were apprehensive of their ability and tried to create reasons for the fans to visit the park as opposed to becoming the cause of the
natural emergence of interests in them about watching their team.
The worst thing a club can face is their fans attend their park for no other reason than having fun with the luxuries it offered for example the dance parties and the extravagant swimming pool etc.
Unless the real black sheep which cause failure is brought to light and held accountable, the Marlins will continue to be a mediocre club in baseball and maybe at some time later, the one heading toward extinction.
Loria spent around $191 million on buying players and yet he could not construct a quality unit. While the players that were inducted were not bad, he needed to do something more in this regard. The claim of taking the club to Division Championships this
year was humongous and needed extensive measures.
