New Marlins ballpark built through tax-payer’s money has not changed fate of Miami Marlins-Part 2
Inclusion of Jose Reyes was used to float an impression that the roster has been perfected for the challenges to be faced in the season. Similarly two other players were acquired in an attempt to explain that they have taken necessary measures and have not
lost sight of the real goals. What was actually required which guarantees success was not done in the process.
Fans were fed on the assumption that existing players suffer hardly any issue and once the likes of Reyes and Heath Bell join they will barely require anything else to clinch glory in the season.
It will not be wrong to state that the Marlins are facing the music of the deliberate fuelling of expectations from their part before the season. The resounding criticism slamming officials and players alike is justified and reflects legitimate outbursts
of anger of the fans.
Sending the fans into the illusion of a crown and then putting before them the reality of doom and misery was to naturally bring their wrath out against the team officials.
Unfortunately, whenever fans raise an uproar they are silenced by the immediate measures which more often than not turn out to be a drive toward the same reality that triggered them in the first place. Hence the vicious circle of disappointment of the fans
continues. Actually the big fish in the club exploit the situation. When they feel the fans are exasperated they take steps which reflect their preconceived plans more than the just response to the criticism.
Just like revolutions are hijacked by different interest groups, in the same way the Marlins are treated every year while the intended change never occurs. When revolutions occur the unfortunate reality prevails and the fact that it has been manipulated
by a few groups in their favour in such a way that nothing gets altered substantially.
It is a fact of life that unless a matter is pursued until it has actually been resolved, it prevails in an even worse form. Whenever the disheartened Marlins’ fans are betrayed their resultant outcry becomes a source of further strengthening the hold of
certain interest groups in the club. Then they bring changes of their own liking and in the process very skillfully cool down the anger of the fans, only to keep disappointing them every year.
The performance this season must disillusion them. Face of real culprits cannot remain hidden for a long time. A complete scrutiny of the whole clubhouse must be launched. The firing of one or two people in the management should not be considered as the
exploration of all the reasons behind the failure of the authorities and that the ghost which undid the club has been identified.
Instead of presenting Guillen as a scapegoat and trying to escape the scene of humiliation, Loria must step forward and take responsibility. He must acknowledge the fact that there were fundamental loop-holes in the team before they entered into the season.
Money which was used was not employed in a manner which ensures the long-term success of the club.
He must accept what should have been the foremost priority was completely overlooked and that the promotion of the cultural activities was put forward as a reason to spend the bulk of the money on unproductive activities.
Loria should shun old practices of panicking and announcing immediate retrenchment measures in turn. This is a time to bring stability in the club. It will be hoped that he puts faith in his current staff and gives them an opportunity for one more year to
prove their credentials.
