New Minnesota Wild coach Mike Yeo making all necessary preparations for next season –NHL Update
Bringing on Mike Yeo was certainly a controversial decision for Minnesota Wild after the 2010-2011 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season ended and the need to revolutionise their team is at its peak point in time, following their second straight postseason
miss.
Minnesota Wild former coach, Todd Richards, was certainly much different from his successor. For one he was 44-years-old and had multiple years of coaching experience in both the minor leagues and major league.
He was brought on to Minnesota by the team management in order to take out the team from a similar position it is today after the 2008-2009 season ended. Back then, he was much like what Mike Yeo is today but failed to improve Wild after two straight seasons
of missing the playoffs.
Yeo is a 38-year-old, with a single season of coaching experience in the American Hockey League (AHL) with Minnesota’s affiliate team, Houston Aeros, who reached the Calder Cup finals this time around and minimum time as Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach,
back when they won the Stanley Cup in 2009.
In recent attempts to show that he truly is dedicated to turning around the team, Yeo flew out to Finland, where his captain, Mikko Koivu and renowned goaltender, Niklas Backstrom are currently spending their summer vacation.
“Mikko is our captain. He’s a guy when it comes to the coach, he’s going to have these guys on board and going out and doing the things you want them to do. If we can make a little headway with that and hopefully get him buying into and believing in the
things we’re talking about right now as opposed to a month into the season, then we’re just going to be that much further ahead”, Yeo told a local newspaper in an interview.
Only time will tell what Mike Yeo has in-store for a struggling Minnesota Wild team. New additions on-to the team, made during the offseason, will have the chance to grow and become pioneers in making a team great.
Not only that, guiding the prospects could also enable a superstar to arise from the ashes and lead Minnesota to victory.
